Following up on Vegas Odds

As is usually the case, since my last post there were a couple of trades that dramatically changed the landscape of the League, to one extent or another. Following is a quick analysis of those trades:

1. TONY and Phil get Rudi Johnson and Drew Bledsoe from Dave/Brandon for Jake Delhomme and Vernand Morency.

I was actually a little suprised that Dave and Brandon did this. Granted, this seems to be the year of the platoon running back, and a year where a premium QB is paramount to winning. And, granted, Dave and Brandon had some issues at QB to say the least. However, Rudi Johnson, so far, seems to be one of the exceptions to the platoon running back. There is really no one he is sharing time with there, and he's putting up solid numbers every week. I should know, he is saving my ass, big time, in the CT's Best league.

By contrast, Jake Delhomme is playing good, and is an upgrade over Dave/Brandon's other options. But I wonder if the cost was just too great. Would they have been better off trading some $ for next year for a guy on the lines of, say, a David Carr or a Rex Grossman? Not those guys specifically, but you see me working.

As to the throw-ins, to me they seem pretty negligable. Bledsoe is washed up; Morency is not the future in Houston although he did have a decent week last week, running for over 100 yards. Slight edge to Dave there but like I said I wonder if he gave up too much for that.

2. By contrast, I thought the Craig/Tom McDonald trade, essentially Brees for Frye and a pair of Browns (neither of whom play for Cleveland) was a solid trade that helped both teams. Craig gets a clear upgrade at QB for this year in Brees; he has been one of the best QBs in the league all year. Tom gets Charlie Frye, who is not nearly as productive as Brees but is solid and is the clear starter in Cleveland and will be next year, for a great price. This is a classic this-year-for-next-year trade.

The throw-ins are pretty negligable here as well, with probably a slight edge to Tom with Reggie Brown, who actually is pretty good. Craig gets Troy Brown, who has value only because he knows the Patriots and that offense so well.

Next up we wonder what Derek has up his sleeve. The rumours are swirling, I guess we will find out soon enough who he put through the stockades this time what he managed to trade for this time arond.

Finally, on a non-fantasy football trade front. Playstation 3 came out this weekend and there was of course the hype regarding people getting shot and mugged for the units. Granted, getting one of these things is like winning the lottery, but I think it warrants mentioning that this falls under the category of "Man Bites Dog". I would wager the incidents you heard blown up on TV were few and far between, and the exception rather than the rule.

Besides, why the hell would anyone go schlep down to Toys R Us or Best Buy, when you can just buy it on eBay for $1,000? I'm actually considering buying one for the purpose of flipping it around Christmastime.
